((our first blog post of the year started with an unglam group photo, it is only right to end the year with a slightly more glam but still unglam group photo hehe))
helloo 🙂 It has been quite a while since we wrote a blog post (when you break the habit of writing every day you sort of forget to write at all oops) Sorryyy 😦
It is quite unbelievable that 2015 is coming to an end in like 15 minutes ? Before we pat ourselves on the back and congratulate ourselves that another year of our lives had just slipped through our fingers and celebrate moving on to a brand new year, let’s just cherish the last moments of 2015.
Sooo I thought what better way to do it than to write a blog post about one of the major highlights of 2015 for us! ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ(bet you can’t guess what it is hahaha if it isn’t so glaringly obvious)
NEmation 10 !! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°
(such unexpected!! okay honestly, what else could it be? maybe oh 2015 was streaming year and we had exams to decide our fate aka subject combinations !! how very exciting)
NE10 is a really big part of 2015, not because it took place over a fairly long period of time, but because of the impact it had on us and the many many many memories we made together. (this is getting really cheesy, I promise this was not what I planned at all)
For me, joining NE10 is probably the best part of my 2015. I’m not saying that like it was a 100% smooth sailing journey or that all those previous blog posts where I mentioned being tired were all lies. It was stressful and tiring, but it gave me a sense of accomplishment when I reached each milestone, such as getting into top 100, top 40, top 20 then finally top 10; or when we finally finished all the animating (❁´▽`❁)*✲ﾟ*
We also got to make friends with the other 10 teams and bond with the instructors (sort of???) Although it is usually not advised to “make friends with the enemy” but I am really glad that other teams are willing to make friends with us and not let competition get in the way of forming friendships :’-) AND THEY ARE ALL REALLY NICE!!!!! ❤
Yes, there were stressful times, when you really want to knock your head on the wall so hard that you don’t have to face the problems anymore. (but the thing is our tents don’t really have walls, just curtains) Unlike quite a few of the other schools, we were not ‘forced’ by our school to join NEmation, it was our choice to join. A question that we get asked quite a bit is where we regret joining. For me, the answer is no. Sure, we have shed blood (not really), sweat and tears and our brains probably got fried countless times, but the memories and friends made, the knowledge and experience gained, I wouldn’t change it for the world. (CHUN U CHEESY BUT AWW -SU)
This whole experience from the online story submission to production has also taught me a lot of things:
1. Well, obviously we learnt how to animate and use toonboom and stuff so there’s that.
2. Positive thinking is key to survive the endless need to re-do. Also, after re-doing so much, towards the end you will feel inclined to re-do because you know that it can be better and there is no point asking if it is okay because you know that it is not.
3. I learnt to better appreciate animations and how long it takes to create. The first hand experience allowed me to better understand the process and I now have a greater admiration for animators. (Yepyep now i can’t watch anime or any sort of animation in peace without feeling the heart pain -Su)
4. Winging it may be a good idea at times, but it is really not advised to do that for super pitch and open house hurhur
5.When your group members have disagreements (which is like ALL THE TIME) or when this one person is not cooperating, step one is to try and tahan, and then try to talk to them about it. Talking to them is something that usually fails when pretty much no one listens to you and you really don’t know how to scold them. (Note to future self, maybe be more harsh?) Anyway, how we deal with disagreements is to bring it up like once then try our best to ignore the problem until we forget there is a problem in the first place. It works, most of the time.
6.Don’t overestimate your speed of drawing, even though we seem ahead of time in the first and second week, one extra day was still needed to complete the animation.
2015 has been an eventful and memorable year :’) and I am really grateful to everyone who was part of it ❤ ｡ﾟ✶ฺ.ヽ(*´∀`*)ﾉ.✶ฺﾟ｡
That’s it for this year! 🙂 Stay tuned for our next blog post which is actually a continuation of this (surprise!!!)
