Hello! It’s N.E. HEH HEH! (≧∇≦*) One of out team members, Wang Lei is overseas this week, so the rest of us will be completing the production!
Whew! Today we cleaned up the last remaining cups, which was surprisingly challenging. There’s loads of miscellaneous smudges that might be noticeable in the cinema! Despite wiping the surfaces for a gazillion times, THE LINT CANT COME OFF!!! (╬ Ò ‸ Ó)
We had an early lunch so that we could work on filming with the new lens for a longer period of time without stopping. Thankfully, the lens arrived on time and we could start shooting the first scene around noon.
During the shoot, we messed up on the cup backgrounds! (“YIPEE!” Michelle screams as we throws her hands into the air) The backgrounds weren’t taped to the cups properly and they shifted between the frames. To add to our frustration, we needed to redo one scene since the camera was overexposed ( ≧Д≦)
We stayed back till 9pm to complete another scene! We needed to make some tiny changes to a few cups too.
We’re a little behind schedule but since we have a few easy scenes tomorrow, we can get back on track! (*´◡｀*)
Today we’re setting up for the OPEN HOUSE! Shoutout to Ms Erica for preparing timelapses of us hard at work (ALL HAIL MS ERICA!!!) o((◕ฺ∀ ◕✿ฺ))o
Michelle swept the floor so it’s nice and clean! Good job Michelle! (-‿◦☀)
Strangely, the camera’s settings keep changing to the wrong ones. (Is it haunted?) *X-files theme*
Karen’s hand started hurting during the shoot (“WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?! DO WE CALL THE DOCTOR??” Michelle shrieks) Isabella, one of our helpers who was from team Higher Than You in NE9, came to our rescue! Special thanks to Isabella for animating our scene and giving us interview tips! ☆ﾟ･*:｡.:(ﾟ∀ﾟ)ﾟ･*:..:☆
Around 3pm, the visitors started arriving! We stopped animating to clean up the tent and make it nice and welcoming.
Although we stuttered a little bit in our presentation during the teachers and principals session, we think we did okay! Our teachers, Mrs De and Mdm Lua, visited us during the Open House! They also gave some useful pointers so we can improve next time! (*＾v＾*)
In the next session, our parents came to support us! We were their personal tour guides, explaining our story ideas in the tent as well as showing them around the lounge.
Other than our parents, we also had an interview for Cyber Pioneer and we chatted with a few teachers and visitors. We even met the champion team for NE10, NEtitanx II and their teacher-in-charge. Talking to complete strangers was a bit awkward at first, but most of the visitors were quite friendly. Many were interested in our production process and asked us questions on how we animated our clip. After a few attempts at showcasing our work, we think we’ve got the hang of it! (〜￣▽￣)〜 Overall, Open House was a great experience for us to practice our presentation skills!
It’s a bright new day! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖° What could possibly go wrong?
- Sarah spilled alcohol on a completed cup.
- Karen accidentally stepped on a background cup, denting it.
- We found that some of the visitors moved the lighting stand!
Everyone was horrified by the turn of events, including Ms Erica. (“Er… just fix it in 20 minutes.”) (゜▽゜;)
After a hectic morning, everything returned to normal. Almost. ヾ(｡ꏿ﹏ꏿ)ﾉﾞ Karen lost her sanity and she began crying and laughing for no reason in particular.
Michelle hid behind a curtain and yelled greetings at people, scaring and scarring our neighbours, especially impossibro. (Sorry if we made you cry!)
We needed to redo another scene (again!) as the background was moving! (The entire team screams internally) ((╬●∀●) Since we are a tad bit behind schedule, we stayed back to continue animating until around 9pm. The whole team was exhausted by then ((((*｡_｡)_
We spent the entire day preparing one of our most complex scenes. We used a smaller cup, which we need to push down every frame! (゜▽゜;) Sarah made a few offerings to the Ms Erica shrine, praying that we can complete the scene smoothly by the end of the day.
Michelle bought fish and chips without chips.
So, the menu says Fish and Chips, but it doesn’t come with them automatically, and you can pick your side dish. Then, I saw the mashed potatoes, and I was like, “Okay! I like mashed potatoes. I’m getting them,” but then I had to pick another one, and since there was some kind of sauce thing that I’m not sure is a side and the fries to choose from, and since I already had something potato-based, I just got more mashed potatoes. And that is how I got fish and chips without the chips.
We planned to do another scene, but the face of our character wasn’t drawn right!!! (°o°；）
Looks like we need to complete lots of scenes tomorrow! Jia you everyone! Ｏ(≧▽≦)Ｏ
Today, we need to complete four scenes (´⊙ω⊙`) The camera will be returned tomorrow at 1.30pm, so we were hard at work animating a run cycle. For this sequence, the background will move twice as much as our character. This makes the final video look nice and smooth! “ヽ(´▽｀)ノ”
Meanwhile, Karen demonstrated her magical cup piling skills.
Our stocks of Milo have been running low, so Karen has been buying iced Milo from Koufu. (“It’s the best waste of money ever!”) Later in the evening, Wei Ting told us that she hid two Milo packets in the fridge. Needless to say, the team ran forward to grab the Milo. (♥ω♥ ) ~♪
Thank you Wei Ting for helping us for the last three weeks! o(*>ω<*)o We will build you a room called the Wei-Ting Room. (It’s pronounced as Waiting Room. Get it? ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ)
Uh oh. We haven’t finished shooting our scenes! Good news: the lens rental has been extended! WE MUST COMPLETE EVERYTHING TOMORROW! (o≧▽ﾟ)o
Time flies! It’s the last day of production and we still have a few scenes to shoot!
Today, we planned to finish all the scenes involving a single cup. But as we animated the scenes, we found that some of the cups looked a little strange, so we decided to redo them! ( ᐛ )و
While waiting for the cups to dry, we animated a scene involving three cups first. (also, a few minutes into shooting a network virus or something popped up. dun dun dun.) According to our debrief, someone downloaded ransomware and it might have entered the system ((ﾟ□ﾟ;)) We disconnected all the Ethernet cables just in case. Fortunately, most of our data was saved locally so we didn’t lose any of our work (´-ω-`)
Hooray! We finished animating our clip in the afternoon! We cleaned up the tent and packed our cups. (Apparently, the cups could be used for exhibitions in the future.)
Ms Erica claimed that Instructor Andrew was racist. Michelle made a pitchfork to attack him! GET REKT PEASANTS! STOP ALL RACISTSSSSS (●o≧д≦)o
Since we amassed lots of plastic cups, Karen made another cup pyramid!
Following N.E.mation tradition, we started the Wrap Party with a BANG! Everyone armed themselves with party poppers and mocktails to end production on a high note. ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و
N.E.mation alumni and our awesome instructors participated in our party games too! We played “Rock, Paper, Scissors” Train, and Michelle beat Mr Nova to win first place (๑>◡<๑)
Congrats Michelle for winning the top prize!
We sacrificed… we mean volunteered Michelle to join the dance competition! No photos since it’s a little too embarrassing for everyone ┏( .-. ┏ ) ┓ Ms Erica has awesome moves tho! She won two rounds of Dance Central (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)
All’s well that ends well, and we’re glad that we completed our clip in time. We have no idea what the next year holds for us, but we’re sure of one thing: we will definitely miss the NYP lounge! From THAT SONG Karen plays on her phone to joking with Ms Erica, there are so many memories we won’t forget during the production!
That’s all for now! Stay tuned for more blog posts!
P.S.: For those of you who happen to get what i’m talking about, THEY PUT A RING ON IT OH MY SWEET LORD THEY GOT THAT FAR YESSSSSSSSSSS SHIPPERS REJOICE THEY DID IT
–Michelle, the person who drew that weird thing on instagram where sadako’s well froze over and some people borrowed it.
